Usually what happens is somebody has an idea of what kind of tone they're looking for and we end up choosing something from what I have on hand... or what I can find. I look for certain things in the tone of my basses, and can find them in the hardware and electronics offered as standard... Gotoh tuners, Indi bridges and EMG extended series pickups.

If somebody wants something different, they have to supply it. You won't get the true JAF tone with anything else, but if that's the way you want to go, I'm game.

JAF #001B

This is my "boat bass" (and my boat amp!) that I bring with me whenever I'm going for trips in my sail boat. It will eventually be rebuilt with a new body and tuners.

Specifications

  • Body: One-piece teak
  • Neck: Aluminum Kramer headless, salvaged from “the Duke”

This was our first consignment bass. The owner supplied the Moses graphite neck and all hardware and electronics.
